For My Daughters…

“I wanted to personalise the session so the photos would be meaningful to Willow and Ivy!” - Jonelle

The Booking Call

As always we started with a booking call to find out about Tara and her daughters. I wanted to find out what they loved doing when they played together so I could create something that would be a memory of Willow and Ivy with their mum at this age and this time. Something that would be meaningful to them.

Tara told me about her beautiful girls - Ivy is 5yrs and always in her own little world. She loves dolls, and anything girly. Her older sister, Willow is 8yrs, Tara described her as an ‘old soul’ and intellegent for her age. I wanted to know what the girls did when they played together - Tara mentioned a lot of creative and cute games they play but I knew the Tea Party would be something I coud really bring to life for her in the photos.

We created these photo ideas on the booking call with Tara…

  • Mum and girls laughing together, showing their close connection.

  • The girls playing together - maybe a Tea party and having fun together - because they play together all the time.

Jonelle: When was your last Family Portrait done?

Tara: I’ve Never had one!

Jonelle: Why did you decide to book in for your portrait?

Tara: Because it’s always been me & my 2 girls, we are the only family we have on my side here & they are all I have & I want them to have something to look back on when they are older & I would love to have a portrait to hang on my wall instead of every picture everyone has that’s the same stock image from a shain superstore.

The Session

I started in the studio to get some up-close detail photos of the girls and one with mum and girls together too - I love the black background because it bring the focus to the subjects with no distractions!

We then headed outside…. it was a typicial winters day in Perth - clear skies and sunny! Perfect I thought… I knew we wanted to do a tea party shot, but I wanted to bring a bit of ‘magic’ to the photos - I used the sun as my backlight to create a feeling of fairies floating around the girls and give them a beautiful halo on their hair.
