Perfect for summer sessions

Pick one hero piece, then echo its tones in everyone else. Nobody needs to match.

More pieces that suit Desert Rose & Sage. Every one is a flowy, forgiving cut that photographs beautifully.

Why it works: Muted tones sit gently against bushland, jetty and cottage backdrops, so faces, not outfits, hold the frame. Mix in soft patterns and textures for dimension without noise.

The Timeless Classic

Blue, Denim & Cream

The timeless classic

Denim counts as a neutral here. Vary the washes and add camel, cream or tan so it never reads as a uniform.

Why it works: Blues echo our jetty, sky and water, and white with denim still looks right twenty years on the wall. Vary the washes and add camel or cream so everyone reads as themselves, not a uniform.

Why it works: Sage and camel belong to the same world as our five acres of natural bush, so your family blends into the landscape instead of fighting it. Creams lift the palette and keep it light.

Moody and timeless

Deep tones need texture to stay rich. Mix knit, cord and denim across the family.

Why it works: Deep tones photograph beautifully against weathered timber, the boatshed and late-afternoon shade. Vary the textures, from knits to cords to denim, so dark never reads flat.

Rich Tones for Winter Sessions

Why it works: Burgundy sings against green bushland, and emerald returns the favour against rust and timber. A confident palette for families who love colour, kept grounded by cream and camel.

Clothing Tips

The small things that make the biggest difference in front of the camera.

Makeup & Hair

  • Stick with your regular routine and natural cosmetics. You don’t need studio-thick makeup.
  • Add a light layer of powder just before the session to reduce shine.
  • A soft-curl blow-dry flatters the face beautifully.
  • Skip tight ponytails on the children. They can read as no hair at all.
  • Check that fringes aren’t covering eyes. A simple clip or headband is all it takes.
  • Dads, give the beard a trim if it needs one.
  • Go easy on oversized baby headbands. Big flowers and bows pull the eye off the face.

Shoes

  • Canvas, leather, boots, heels and sandals all photograph well.
  • Bare feet are lovely too.
  • Leave the running sneakers at home.
  • Bring flats or thongs for walking through the bushland.

Accessories

  • Wear your family heirlooms. Earrings, watches and necklaces carry real meaning in a portrait.
  • Take off smartwatches and fitness bands.
  • Avoid transition lenses outdoors. They darken in every frame.
  • Bring clear-lens spectacles if you wear glasses.

And One More Thing

  • Skip the standard white shirt and jeans. You don’t want to look like everyone else.
  • Never dress everyone in identical shirts. Coordinated always beats matching.
